I want to talk in this writing about what it means to be a spiritual warrior in the kingdom of God.
Jesus is not coming back for a weak powerless church, hiding in a hole somewhere. He is coming back for a church that is triumphant and victorious. Jesus said that the gates of hell will not prevail against the church.
What is spiritual warfare? There are many definitions of what spiritual warfare is. A great definition is to enforce the enemies defeat through the authority that has been given through the finished work and in the name of Jesus. It’s important to keep in mind that we fight from a place of victory. Jesus has already defeated the enemy, stripped him of all of his authority, and given all of the authority to the church.
The basis of our victory is found in these verses; (Colossians 2:13-15) 13 And you, being dead in your sins and the uncircumcision of your flesh, hath he quickened together with him, having forgiven you all trespasses; 14 Blotting out the handwriting of ordinances that was against us, which was contrary to us, and took it out of the way, nailing it to his cross; 15 And having spoiled principalities and powers, he made a shew of them openly, triumphing over them in it.
People who go around telling everyone how the devil is always attacking them don’t know who they are in Christ and what has been given to them. Satan’s primary weapons are deception and guilt. If the enemy can get you focused on his lies and get you to focus on yourself and shortcomings then he has you in a place of defeat. A revelation of our righteousness through the blood of Jesus is the key to our victory.
(Ephesians 1:17-23, 2:4-6) 17 That the God of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of glory, may give unto you the spirit of wisdom and revelation in the knowledge of him: 18 The eyes of your understanding being enlightened; that ye may know what is the hope of his calling, and what the riches of the glory of his inheritance in the saints, 19 And what is the exceeding greatness of his power to us-ward who believe, according to the working of his mighty power, 20 Which he wrought in Christ, when he raised him from the dead, and set him at his own right hand in the heavenly places, 21 Far above all principality, and power, and might, and dominion, and every name that is named, not only in this world, but also in that which is to come: 22 And hath put all things under his feet, and gave him to be the head over all things to the church, 23 Which is his body, the fulness of him that filleth all in all.
Jesus has obtained our victory and we are seated in the highest position of authority, FAR above the entire kingdom of darkness.
(2 Corinthians 2:14) 14 Now thanks be unto God, which always causeth us to triumph in Christ, and maketh manifest the savour of his knowledge by us in every place.
God always causes us to triumph over Satan’s kingdom. Always and every place means that we are always triumphant in every place that we go.
(Matthew 28:18-20) 18 And Jesus came and spake unto them, saying, All power is given unto me in heaven and in earth. 19 Go ye therefore, and teach all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Ghost: 20 Teaching them to observe all things whatsoever I have commanded you: and, lo, I am with you always, even unto the end of the world. Amen.
Jesus has obtained all authority and he has given it to us (the Body Of Christ) to go and enforce the devils defeat and the victory of Christ’s resurrection.
Three truths about the victory of Jesus:
- Jesus defeated Satan in the wilderness for his behalf through overcoming temptation.
- Jesus defeated Satan on the cross on our behalf and purchased our eternal redemption.
- Jesus gave us his authority to defeat the works of the devil on others behalf.
Jesus perfectly modeled what true spiritual warfare looks like.
(1 John 3:8) For this purpose the Son of God was manifested, that He might destroy the works of the devil.
Everywhere that Jesus went he was destroying the works of the devil. He was healing the sick and casting out devils. Jesus was engaged in spiritual warfare on a daily basis. He was a weapon of mass
You could say that Jesus was a spiritual warrior and God is calling us to be spiritual warriors in his kingdom. We have to realize that we are constantly in a spiritual battle. There are spiritual forces of good and evil that are around us all the time. True Spiritual Warfare is a lifestyle of daily readiness, a lifestyle of daily preparation and training. Includes spiritual disciplines such as prayer, fasting, private worship, meditation of the Word, speaking the Word and living in obedience to the Holy Spirit.
There is no neutral when it comes to spiritual development. Either you are moving forward or you are moving backwards. Remember, Jesus understands precisely what you’re going through and he has given your the power to change any situation through the use of his name!
